John Lissoway has been involved with a unique collaboration between Wildland Fire Associates and Chimayo Conservation Corps for 4 years. The on-going collaboration has resulted in successful restoration of 434 acres of forest land in northern New Mexico including ponderosa pine forest, pinyon-juniper forest and Rio Grande Bosque.
The restored forests are on a variety of land ownerships that include USDA Forest Service, New Mexico State Land Office, Bureau of Land Management, Bureau of Indian Affairs and the Pueblo of San Ildefonso.
The restoration projects have provided professional training opportunities and workforce development for local young adults, as well as producing fuelwood for surrounding communities.
